Why was Revit named Revit

The origin of the name "Revit" has multiple interpretations.

The first interpretation stems from the original commercial of the inaugural release of Revit 1. In the video, phrases such as "it's time for a revolution" and "it's time for a revit" can be heard at the 36-second mark. The name is essentially an acronym combining these two words: "rev" representing "revolution" and "it" signifying the transformative nature of the software.

Revolution it = Revit signifies a product that allows designers to work not with abstract elements like polylines, blocks, and layers, but with tangible objects such as walls, windows, and doors. In Revit, all data is synchronized and automatically updated. This approach grants designers more time for the actual design process instead of focusing solely on technical drawings. This innovative aspect represents the revolution inherent within Revit.

Another interpretation suggests that the name originates from the phrase "Revise Instantly." The ability to make quick alterations served as the foundation for the name Revit, which is an abbreviation for "Revise Instantly." Revit was developed around a parametric change propagation mechanism, leveraging a novel technology called context-driven parametrics. This technology offered greater scalability compared to the variational and history-driven parametrics utilized in mechanical CAD software.

Two years following its release, Autodesk acquired Revit for a total of $133 million.
